WESTBURY- On 2 separate occasions this past month CSEA Local 830 members from Nassau University Medical Center, A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility and Nassau County Crossing Guards were honored for their excellence.
The Wednesday April 25th dinner at the Chateau Briand, honored nearly 500 Nassau Health Care Corporation workers who were celebrating either their 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th anniversaries working in Nassau County. Those workers combine for nearly 10,000 years of service to the county which is much appreciated by both NHCC CEO Art Gianelli, and CSEA Local 830 President Jerry Laricchiuta. Overall 3,000 NHCC workers are represented by CSEA.
“We are proud to have our union CSEA here tonight to support us,” Gianelli said in his keynote address. A year ago Local 830 was at odds with the past CEO, and helped usher in Gianelli who has helped the hospital regain financial stability. CSEA’s weekly meetings with the NHCC CEO have proved to be helpful in aiding the effort of working together.
Laricchiuta spoke before the NHCC employees that night, as well as at the Nassau County Crossing Guards’ Dinner the following night at Verdi’s. There are approximately 450 county crossing guards represented by CSEA, headed by Unit President Mary DelMare. Awardees included Antonia Rizzo, Barbara Chapman, Carmella White, Carol Colvell, Carole Pohalski, Deborah Alvino, Eileen Burke, Izoora Freeman, Janice Romano, Maryann Sjoholm, and Susan Torres.
“It’s always important to attend member functions like these,” Laricchiuta said. “It’s important to keep camaraderie and worker morale at a high level and recognizing these members as a whole certainly does that.”
