Local 830 President Interviewed on County Car Issue

Jerry Laricchiuta with News
12’s Jackie Lukas

MINEOLA- Major headlines have been made in Nassau County this month regarding the issue of Nassau County workers having take-home cars.

Out of the 1000 Nassau County cars, 341 are granted the right to take them home. Some of these are CSEA members, which have the right to take-home vehicles guaranteed in the CSEA contract.  Local 830 President Jerry Laricchiuta was interviewed about this issue on News 12 on April 10th.

In a segment with News 12’s Jackie Lukas, Laricchiuta said there are times that the cars are needed.  “We have case workers who are putting children in their cars, which presents safety issues,” Laricchiuta said in reference to CSEA members at Child Protective Services who don’t have a county car.

177 CSEA members have cars and will continue to keep them unless there is some negotiation between CSEA and the county," Laricchiuta explained.

This interview followed a legislative hearing on the matter at One West Street that featured Legislative Majority Leader Judy Jacobs, and other Nassau County legislators.
