DA office used AI to undercut overtime, union says

October 14, 2025: The Civil Service Employees Association, the union representing paralegals, clerks and support staff, has accused the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office of using artificial intelligence to undercut its members’ overtime pay, violating the terms of their labor contract.

Union for Long Island DA Office Says AI Replaced Staffers' Discovery Collection Tasks

October 09, 2025: The union says a bot is being used to input police records, motor vehicle records, criminal history records, discovery compliance, and court dispositions into the office’s system for use by assistant district attorneys in court, among other tasks that led to ample overtime opportunities for staffers.

AI took Nassau DA worker overtime, violated collective bargaining agreement, union says

October 9, 2025: "CSEA filed an improper practice charge with PERB over the District Attorney’s Office’s rollout of an automated system that’s taking over work our members have always done," Local 830 president Kris Kalender said in an email statement. "The office made these changes without talking to the union, even though the law requires it. It’s unfortunate that we have to go through a legal process to get there, but we’ll protect our members’ work at all costs. We’re not against technology, but it can’t come at the expense of workers’ rights or jobs."

Cops, CSEA snub Donnelly reelection bid

September 29, 2025: CSEA Local 830 president Kris Kalender told The Point in a statement: "Morale in the DA’s office has suffered under the current administration, with mismanagement and even the unprecedented use of a bot to take away work from our 200 members. Nicole Aloise is a highly skilled attorney with strong support from our membership who knew her as a prosecutor, and we believe she will restore professionalism and respect to the office."

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman proposes volunteer buyouts for veteran municipal workers

September 24, 2025: "While we welcome any added benefit for our members, uncompetitive starting pay and demanding jobs have fueled staffing shortages, especially in critical services," Kalender said in a statement. "Still, we are optimistic about working with the administration to ensure our members have the support they need to continue delivering essential services for Nassau residents."
