Dear Members,
Since taking office in July, we’ve been committed to laying the groundwork to ensure this union truly represents those we serve.
Our current focus is political action. We expanded the PAC from 6 to 23 members, including local and unit officers, and conducted a survey of our members. That survey gave us a clear picture of what matters most as we approach election season, and our main focus is on ensuring that all of our dues-paying members are accurately represented.
The key point that came up repeatedly is that almost none of our members have seen a contract completed without changes. Wage delays, NIFA, and the end of Excelsior have all shown how politics affects our livelihoods. Regardless of party or office, these lessons remind us to stay vigilant and inspire us to do more.
Over the course of a week, the PAC interviewed 27 candidates as part of its endorsement process. Each candidate was asked direct and detailed questions about how they would support labor, protect contracts, and stand with county employees. These conversations gave the committee valuable insight into which candidates are committed to the issues that matter most to our members.
As we approach Election Day, the question is clear: which elected officials have proven they will stand with the County workforce? Guided by your poll responses, candidate actions and inactions, and careful review, the PAC has endorsed:
• Elaine Phillips for Nassau County Comptroller
• Nicole Aloise for Nassau County District Attorney
• Viviana Russell for Nassau County Legislature, 2nd District
• Olena Nicks for Nassau County Legislature, 5th District
• Cynthia Nunez for Nassau County Legislature, 14th District
The candidates we have endorsed in the open legislative seats, while new to the Nassau County political arena, have pledged to support and uphold our union-based values that strengthen our membership.
Our members have earned the trust of the public and elected officials. Now it’s time for officials to earn ours through honest, transparent, and accountable action.
In solidarity,
Kris Kalender
President, CSEA Local 830
